Welcome to Great Bend High School! We are excited to welcome both new and returning students and families to Panther Nation.

As a 5A high school, GBHS offers a wide range of academic, athletic, fine arts, and extracurricular opportunities designed to help students discover their passions and prepare for life after graduation. From rigorous coursework and career pathways to championship athletics, student organizations, and leadership opportunities, every student can find a place to belong and succeed.

How to Enroll

Returning Students

Welcome back!

A district-wide online enrollment period takes place during July and early August each year for returning students. This process is necessary to update our student records with current student demographics and permission forms and to collect the yearly enrollment fees. Online enrollment is required for all returning and preregistered students.

Online Enrollment is OPEN; please begin the enrollment process in your Skyward Family Access Account.

New to Our District

Our goal is to make your transition into Great Bend Schools a positive experience!

We have friendly staff members at each building, ready to help our new students settle comfortably into our schools.

If your student is starting at the beginning of the school year, on-site enrollment in August is a great time to get started at your student's school (see the schedule below). Parents and guardians are also welcome to contact the school directly during the summer to begin the enrollment process.
If your student is starting mid-year, visit your child's school to complete the paperwork and enroll them.

If you have questions about which elementary school your child will attend, please consult the boundary map, or call our District Education Center at 620-793-1500. For families that reside outside our district boundary but wish to attend a Great Bend school, please view the "transfer to USD 428" instructions on the next tab.

Age Requirements:

Preschool: 3 or 4 years old, on or before August 31
Kdg: 5 years of age on or before August 31

What you will need:

Proof of Address: Acceptable documents include a current utility bill (gas, water or electric) showing the student’s address, or a current rental or purchase agreement. If these documents are not available, an affidavit signed by the parent or the enrolling adult will be accepted.
Proof of Name and Age: Acceptable documents include birth certificate, baptismal certificate, family Bibles that dutifully record births and deaths, or other hospital documents or certificates. An affidavit filled out by the enrolling adult, attesting to the child’s name and age, will also be accepted.
Kansas Certification of Immunization: Kansas requires all children entering school for the first time in Kansas to provide their immunization records prior to admission to and attendance at a public school. A health assessment is now required for school entry for children through 8 years of age who have not previously enrolled in a Kansas school. View immunization requirements here.

Transfer to USD 428 (Open Enrollment)

Do you live in a neighboring community outside the USD 428 boundary but want to attend a Great Bend School?

Based on projected enrollment and the capacity for the next school year, USD 428 will accept nonresident students, as outlined in the table below.

K-8, capacity determined by student-teacher ratio
9-12, capacity determined by building and/or program capacity

Students living outside the USD 428 boundary must formally apply for nonresident enrollment using the transfer request form, available beginning January 1. The completed application must be received by June 15. Applications may also be picked up and returned to the USD 428 District Office at 1809 24th St. All questions about nonresident enrollment shall be directed to Khris Thexton, 620-793-1500.

Nonresident Enrollment Timeline, observed annually:

January 1 - Nonresident Transfer Form Available
June 15 - Deadline to Return Transfer Request Form to the District Education Center, 1809 24th Street, Great Bend, KS.
July 15 - Parent/Guardian will be notified if the Transfer Request was approved

On-Site Enrollment for 2026-2027 School Year:

School staff will be available during on-site enrollment to answer questions and provide support for both returning and new students to USD 428. If you complete enrollment online, there is no need to attend.

Computers and staff will be available at all buildings during the times listed below to assist parents.
School fees can be paid via credit card, check, or cash.
Students do not need to be present at on-site enrollment.
